Sax Ensemble Zoom Sessions take advantage of online resources to explore music literature for the sax quartet. Each meeting includes listening to some of the finest sax quartets of this era. After listening we briefly discuss aspects of the performance pertinent to our development as sax players. We then do warm ups that can include tone, chord and scale studies. Then we work on repertoire by playing along with recordings of professional sax quartets. By playing along with pros much of the guess work regarding phrasing, tone color, intonation, dynamics and timing is cut down to a minimum. Our job then is, through practice, to emulate what is presented in the recordings.
Music Center Sax Ensemble Zoom sessions are very productive and will result in “hitting the ground running” when we do return to in-person sessions.
